MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team dropped to No. 7 in the national poll announced today by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Mountaineers fell to the No. 7 spot receiving 290 votes this week. Washington and Villanova remain at the No. 1 and 2 spots, while Florida moved to No. 3, Princeton to No. 4 and Oregon to No. 5. Colorado also dropped this week to No. 6.
In yesterday’s regional poll, the Mountaineers were ranked No. 3 behind Villanova and Princeton.
WVU finished in second place last weekend at the BIG EAST Championship in Milwaukee, Wis. The Mountaineers finished at No. 2 for the second-straight year, as Villanova took the top spot.
Senior Clara Grandt led the team with an overall fifth-place showing, crossing the line in 21:20, respectively, while seniors Marie-Louise Asselin and Keri Bland followed in seventh (21:26) and 13th (21:46).
The Mountaineers are set to return to action on Nov. 14, at the NCAA Regionals in Princess Anne, Md.
